Lenten Devotional for March 15

The Lord looks down from heaven;
he sees all humankind.
From where he sits enthroned he watches
all the inhabitants of the earth—
he who fashions the hearts of them all,
and observes all their deeds.
A king is not saved by his great army;
a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
The war horse is a vain hope for victory,
and by its great might it cannot save.
Truly the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,
on those who hope in his steadfast love,
to deliver their soul from death,
and to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the Lord;
he is our help and shield.
Our heart is glad in him,
because we trust in his holy name.
Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,
even as we hope in you.

Questions

1. Try to name a hymn or song that is based on or uses similar words as the daily psalm. If you need assistance, do an internet search to find a familiar hymn or a new worship song.

2. How can you use music to enhance time spent in your devotion? You can play a special piece of music as you read, or read the psalm and then listen to music as your reflection.

3. Not long ago psalms were the only music sung in certain churches, but today we more often hear the psalms spoken. Try to add a tune to the day’s psalm so it becomes a song. It does not have to perfect or beautiful. Does singing the psalm change its meaning for you?
