Why we give
The Bible tells us to return to God one-tenth of the abundance that comes to us. This standard for giving is called the tithe. We put God first when we give 10 percent of our income back to God through the church. Of course, we realize that some have been so richly blessed that they may choose to give more. Others, at various times in their lives, may find it necessary to give less. But our desire should be to come as close as we are able to that traditional gift to God. These gifts allow us to continue to do God’s work in Charlotte and around the world.

Whether you’d like to give a single gift or schedule ongoing donations, you can do it all online.

Planned gifts are investments in the future growth and stability of First Presbyterian Church, allowing the church to respond faithfully to new opportunities in ministry and mission. Through planned giving, members and friends can make a lasting gift that reflects their faith, values, and gratitude for God’s goodness.
When You Include First Presbyterian Church in Your Planned Giving
- You express your love and support for the church’s ministry for generations to come.
- You give thanks for God’s goodness and grace in a way that reflects your faith.
- You help provide support for programs, projects, and ministries beyond the annual operating budget.
- You strengthen the church’s outreach and witness in the community.
- You may receive financial, income, or tax benefits depending on the type of gift.
- You leave a meaningful statement to family and friends about the values and faith you cherish.
What Is a Planned Gift?
Planned giving is simply the term used when you decide in advance how your assets will be used during your lifetime or after your death and include the church among the causes/missions you love. A planned gift is designed to provide future support for First Presbyterian Church and can take two general forms:
Ways to Make a Planned Gift
- A gift made after your lifetime through a bequest in your will or trust
- A beneficiary designation through a life insurance policy, retirement plan, or other account
- An immediate gift made during your lifetime to support church ministry, outreach, or endowment
- A charitable gift vehicle such as a gift annuity or donor-advised fund.
Other Ways to Give
- Donate appreciated stock or other securities.
- Make a charitable distribution directly from your IRA, if eligible.
- Name First Presbyterian Church as a beneficiary of your IRA, donor-advised fund, insurance policy, or trust.
- Create or contribute to an endowment that supports a ministry or purpose close to your heart.
