Event Series Summer Book Club

Summer Book Club x Plowshares

Frances Browne Dining Room

We will read “Horse" by Geraldine Brooks. This historical novel imagines the story of a real-life record-breaking thoroughbred ("Lexington") who won his last race in 1855. Interwoven with that story, Geraldine Brooks adds a modern-day plot involving a painting of the horse and its bones. Based on the remarkable true story of the record-breaking thoroughbred Lexington, Horse is a novel of art and science, love and obsession, and our unfinished reckoning with racism. Join us for a light lunch and table discussion about the book. Purchase the book online here, or pick up a copy from the church for $10 in June.

Event Series Confirmation Class

Confirmation Class

What is Confirmation?   In Confirmation, youth explore what it means to be Presbyterian, what it means to be part of the Church, and what it means to lead faithful lives. Over the course of several weeks, Confirmands wrestle with tough questions, observe Christian practices, and consider how faith enriches their world. Topics of discussion include God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Presbyterian polity, worship, doctrine, scripture, service, sacraments, and prayer. At the end of the Confirmation process, youth create a faith statement to share with members of the Session who will approve them for membership in the church. Who can participate in Confirmation? Confirmation is offered primarily to 8th and 9th grade students. Any high school youth who have not yet completed Confirmation may enroll as well. Confirmation Mentors Faith Formation happens in community. Youth have big thoughts and big questions throughout this process, and it is important for them to have a support system in those moments.
