Prayer
Week 1: The Huron Carol
Great Wonder, tiny child, Emmanuel,
We thank you that your love knows no boundaries.
As you came to shepherds in the region of Judea long ago,
As you guided magi from the Middle East to kneel in reverence,
So we know that you came to First Nations peoples on their own continent,
To wandering hunters on cold winter nights,
And to a young squaw sitting in her lodge of broken bark.
We thank you that you also come to us,
To our homes, our families, our hearts,
To people of all backgrounds, speaking all languages,
Living in all neighborhoods, dreaming many dreams.
You bring us all the good news that Jesus proclaimed and lived,
The news that, though heralded for 2000 years,
Is still fresh every morning:
The assurance that you are near, that your reign is near,
Where the poor are blessed, the hungry filled,
the oppressed set free, the stranger welcomed.
Lord Christ, you call us to live as children of light during this season of light,
And you invite us to invite you to live in us by your Holy Spirit,
So that we might be people of justice and joy,
A community of righteousness and peace,
A blessing for this world you cherish enough to be born into.
With the great chiefs of the Wendat people,
We celebrate that you come to be compassionate with us,
That you love us, and that you thought to yourself,
‘I should make them part of My family.’
And so, by your grace, we are.
Hallelujah! Amen.
