Sun Counseling and Wellness
at First Presbyterian Church
First Presbyterian’s Opening Doors Capital Campaign identified mental health as an outreach priority after Charlotte’s Opportunity Task Force included access to mental healthcare as a major factor in socioeconomic mobility and flourishing. FPC recognized barriers to quality, accessible mental health counseling within the uptown community (cost, location) and set out to partner with excellent therapists to provide care in uptown.
After receiving proposals from many potential partners, Sun Counseling was identified as the church’s clinical partner for this project. FPC values Sun’s proven excellence in clinical practice, as well as its commitment to compassionate, engaging education about mental health concerns that are familiar to many of us.

Cost
The fee for a provisionally licensed therapist is $175 for an intake session and $150 for subsequent sessions. The fee for a fully licensed is $250 for an intake session and $200 for subsequent sessions.
Sun Counseling therapists do not currently accept insurance, but for those who are paying full-fee and not receiving a scholarship, the therapists can provide a “super bill” to clients to file with their insurance company for reimbursement.
Scholarships
The cost of therapy can be a barrier to many. The Opening Doors campaign will fund income-based scholarships for clients seeing practitioners at FPC. Sun Counseling therapists will work directly with individual clients to identify the appropriate rate for services rendered, using the income-based charts provided to the right. If you think you qualify for a reduced rate, please fill out the form or speak directly with your therapist during or prior to your first session.
