FPC Travels

The mission of Adult Formation is to encourage and inspire our congregation to become lifelong and faithful followers of Christ.  Just as much of Jesus’ ministry took place on roads and hillsides outside the synagogue, trips with FPC outside the walls of the church provide meaningful and transformational education.

FPC travelers immerse themselves in experiential learning, share their new findings with fellow travelers, and observe how studying in alternative contexts inspires fresh insights when they return home. Join FPC Travels for a first-hand look at how God is at work in the world. Contact Garrell Keesler, Director of Adult Formation for more information about FPC Travels.

Civil Rights Trip – Alabama

JUNE 11-14, 2026

Inspired by this quote from Ida B. Wells, “The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them,” First Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a trip to Alabama with teachers from Westerly Hills Academy this spring. The transformative four-day journey will explore the history of the Civil Rights Movement in Montgomery, Selma, and Birmingham and will highlight the women and men who fought for freedom.

The group will visit landmarks such as the Legacy Museum, the Rose Parks Museum, and the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park. Walking across the Edmund Pettis Bridge and worshipping at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church will stir a sense of solidarity with those who risked their lives for the right to vote. This immersive experience and the conversations that arise will not only educate but also renew our commitment to justice and equality for all of God’s people.

We especially encourage those who work with and are forming relationships at Westerly Hills Academy to participate, but welcome all. Cost details to follow.

Registration opens February 1 at 8 a.m.
