Reflection on Today’s Devotional:
“Can we be burdened by “stuff”? Absolutely! The relentless push of day to day life can fill us with one burden after another. Soon we can feel overwhelmed. Throughout the Gospels, Christ reminds us to focus on what is important and not get caught-up in the push of daily burdens. In Luke 9:3 Jesus said to his disciples, “Take nothing for your journey no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money – not even an extra tunic.”
Sometimes events crash into our lives and automatically force us to see that there are matters more important than the every-day concern about “stuff”. So often these events involve a health crisis that erupts. This has happened to our family as it does ultimately to all of us. Now, we have a real Burden, this time with a capital “B”. But our faith tells that we are not alone and that God is in all things. While we are clearly not in control of the outcome, we can embrace God’s caring and comfort and not worry about bringing an “extra tunic”.
During Lent we are given an opportunity to refocus on the truly important parts of life. God is with us and with that promise we can go forward to face any burden no matter how big it is.” – Ed Munn (FPC Adult)
