Devotional for December 1

“O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” is one of my favorite Advent hymns. Each verse is a prayer, a longing, for Christ to come into the world and fulfill the promises God made to his people. The refrain is a bold assurance and reminder to rejoice that Emmanuel, God with us, is indeed coming! At some point in life, everyone longs for something. What are you longing for this Advent season? How is God trying to speak to you through the waiting? Take heart in the assurance that Emmanuel is coming – maybe in the way you least expect him.
